The Story of Harbinger Flooring In Canada
Bay Resource Group is a company that distributes niche flooring products, including Harbinger, Ultra Weave, Dinoflex, and Wayflor. The products they offer are suitable for commercial, residential housing, retail, food service, fitness, health care, educational, dental offices, recreational, and marine applications - in any setting where a durable, high-quality flooring product is needed.
Having developed and distributed niche flooring products for over 20 years, Bay Resource Group is at the forefront of the flooring industry. Beginning as the BC representative for Dinoflex, an internationally distributed recycled rubber manufacturer based in Salmon Arm, BC, they have established a strong environmental foundation and international distribution network.
The Bay Resource Group is a family-run business based in British Columbia. It was started in a garage in White Rock and now employs 11 sales representatives in Western Canada with 8 support staff to make sure customer service is efficient from order desk to delivery. Furthermore, Bay Resource Group has agreements with distributors in both Eastern Canada and the United States.
A leading-edge line of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) was developed by Ed Van Oene in 1999 under the Harbinger brand when he determined that luxury vinyl tile (LVT) was going to be the next breakthrough in flooring. As part of Bay Resource Group's philosophy, the company works closely with a factory that operates under strict environmental and quality regulations to ensure a truly recyclable product is produced while ensuring that employees are treated fairly.

Harbinger is committed to responsible business practices on both a social and environmental level. The indoor air quality we provide far exceeds the standards set forth by FloorScore and LEED, as we are free of phthalates, phenol, and heavy metals. Our objective has always been to produce a product that is both environmentally friendly as well as performing well, and durable. There has never been a compromise between quality and cost. Our company has been able to achieve these goals throughout its history, which they are very proud of.
We have three architects and designers on our team, which enables us to ensure that our product line is up to date. We are able to respond to industry trends within months rather than years due to our size and relationship with our manufacturer. Therefore, we provide our customers with the most current flooring trends. The importance of this is that if you choose to never replace your flooring, it will last for a lifetime.
Harbinger Flooring in Canada: LEED CERTIFICATION
We recommend that you use the following information regarding Harbinger and LEED certification for your LEED-related projects when you submit a bid or in the event that your end user seeks LEED certification following the completion of installation.
LEED is the world's leading system for certifying green buildings. Harbinger products qualify for LEED credits under these LEED programs: NC (new construction) and CI (commercial interiors).
All Harbinger products meet the following qualifications:
- MR 4.2 NC/CI Recycled Content: 60% (post-consumer + 1/2 pre-consumer)
- EQ 4.1 NC/CI Low-Emitting Materials: adhesives and sealants
The Harbinger flooring products have been independently tested and certified and have met the requirements of the State of California Section 01350 regarding volatile organic compound emissions, thereby qualifying them for use in schools and offices within the state of California.
Furthermore, Harbinger certifies that our adhesive S600 complies with the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) limits set by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. It is mandatory that these limits be met in order to meet the requirements of the U.S. National Green Building Council LEED program for Indoor Environmental Quality. Harbinger S600 adhesive goes beyond complying with VOC limits by inhibiting the growth of a variety of molds, mildews, and bacteria within its adhesive.
Harbinger has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to recycling and reusing 100% of its pre-consumer waste in accordance with LEED for the Materials and Resources category. A large portion of the weight of our product may be comprised of this pre-consumer waste, which is recycled during our manufacturing process. The production and manufacturing process of Harbinger S600 adhesive incorporates approximately 8 to 10% post-consumer recycled materials.
Harbinger Floors manufacturing facilities have traditionally streamlined their operational requirements to minimize material waste and to maximize the recycling and reuse the pre-consumer waste materials and post-consumer waste materials. In addition, all raw materials used in the manufacture of our product are sourced within 200 kilometers of our manufacturing facility.
The goal of our company is to develop products that will provide the best indoor air quality, aesthetics, and performance for decades to come.
